IQ2000 KHV Detection and Prevention System
Introduction
Koi carp is the main freshwater ornamental fish which exhibits very high degree of value addition. In recent years, the industry has been threatened by a newly recognized virus, Koi Herpesvirus (KHV) as episodes of KHV outbreaks have occurred in areas including Asia, United States and Europe. The spread of KHV has caused massive mortality in cultured common carp as well as in the ornamental koi carp. It is reported that KHV is killing four out of every five fish that infects. In East Java, Indonesia, KHV infection was reported to have affected over 5,000 fish farmers and caused a loss of US$0.5 million within three months (Agus Sunarto et. al, paper presented in 5th Symposium on Disease in Asian Aquaculture, 14-28 Nov. 2002, Gold Coast, Australia). The disease had also been reported in common or koi carp in 23 of Japan’s 47 prefectures by the end of 2003. Such rapid spread of KHV is presumably resulted from worldwide trade and the trans-boundary movement when the fish is under the stress of transportation, handling, and the change of temperature. Base on the findings, the prevention of KHV exposure and KHV quarantine is no doubt a key issue in the protection of local koi farming industry.
IQ 2000™ KHV Detection and Prevention System is the first viral diagnostic system specially designed for ornamental fish by GeneReach. This system has adopted the design of nested PCR and also inherited the reliability, sensitivity and experience from a range of IQ 2000™ viral diagnostic kits for shrimp and fish viral infections. IQ 2000™ KHV has effective and reproducible detection limit of 10 viral copies while in most cases digit copy of virus can also be detected. IQ 2000™ KHV offers you the best tool for the prevention of KHV infection.
