IQ Plus NHPB Kit
Introduction
Necrotizing hepatopancreatitis (NHP) is a bacterial disease which targets penaeid shrimp. NHP was originally identified in 1990 in cultured Litopenaeus vannamei in Texas, USA. The disease has now been reported in several locations throughout the Western hemisphere. NHPB can result in significant production losses, with mortality losses ranging from 20% to 95% within 30 days of an outbreak.
NHPB is a gram-negative, pleomorphic, intracellular, rickettsia-like bacterium. It is necessary to use molecular methods for phylogenetic placement of the NHPB due to the inability of culturing it. The research for NHPB is continuously on going. It is recognized that the disease is not transmitted vertically
PCR technique has been commonly employed in the aquaculture industry for disease diagnosis and prevention. But building up a PCR lab is expensive and technician required. These make PCR detection limited in big farms. In order to provide pond-side PCR detection system for everyone in need, we introduced an innovative system - IQ Plus into the market. IQ Plus system using a new technology - insulated isothermal PCR (iiPCR), which is a compact and portable system and can detect NHPB within 1 hour. The extraction procedure has been simplified to an easy way for everyone can easily perform the assay. IQ Plus system would be a useful tool for aquaculture pathogen detection and prevention anytime anywhere.
