IQ Plus VNN Kit

Introduction
Viral Nervous Necrosis disease (VNN) has been reported in marine fishes such as parrot fish, groupers, flounders, sea bass, turbot, and striped jack since 1990 (Nguyen et al., 1994; Munday & Nakai et al., 1997; Muroga et al., 1998; Gomez & Lim et al., 2006; Gomez & Baeck et al., 2008). This disease caused high mortalities in the affected animals which were characterized by vacuolation in the retinal and brain tissue. Nodavirus, the causative agent of VNN, contains 2 single-stranded, positive-sense, non- polyadenylated RNAs, was identified as a member of the family Nodaviridae (Nishizawa et al., 1995, 1996; Nguyen et al., 1997).
PCR technique has been commonly employed in the aquaculture industry for disease diagnosis and prevention. But building up a PCR lab is expensive and technician required. These make PCR detection limited in big farms. In order to provide pond-side PCR detection system for everyone in need, we introduced an innovative system - IQ Plus into the market. IQ Plus system using a new technology - insulated isothermal PCR (iiPCR), which is a compact and portable system and can detect VNN within 1 hour. The extraction procedure has been simplified to an easy way for everyone can easily perform the assay. IQ Plus system would be a useful tool for aquaculture pathogen detection and prevention anytime anywhere.
